NEW STUD SIRE!
White River Welcomes New Stud Sire: WIRINGA PARK 240742
The team at White River Poll Merino Stud is proud to announce the purchase of an elite new stud sire, WIRINGA PARK 240742, following a standout sale at the 2025 Australian Sheep & Wool Show in Bendigo, Victoria.
Purchased for $70,000 in a private deal with the Hobley family’s Wiringa Park Stud, the March shorn Poll Merino ram impressed from first inspection. With class, presence, and performance to match, this powerful young sire captured the attention of stud breeders and commercial operators alike across the three-day event.
The decision to invest in WP240742 was not taken lightly, but according to White River’s Wes Daniell, we can see his pedigree fitting in very well with our directions and we can see semen selling a good opportunity.
“He’s an absolute class act,” Wes said – terrific shape on a plain body, with beautiful head and muzzle. His wool is so well aligned and deeply crimped, and when you add the figures behind him, it just made sense.”
Sired by Glenlea Park 220614 and out of 220507, WP240742 combines structural correctness with elite data – making him a genuine dual-purpose sire prospect. His ASBVs speak volumes, with standout figures for Wool Production (216.08), YWT (7.77), and top-end performance for indexes including YCFW (46.23) and Sustainable Merino (159.55). He ranks in the top 1% for Wool Production and the top 5% for both Merino Production and YCFW indexes.
Weighing in at 117kg (mid-July), the ram tested 19.6 micron, 2.9 SD, 14.8 CV and an impressive 99.4 comfort factor reinforcing his value as both a sire of industry-leading wool and a structurally sound, productive animal.
Co-principal Alan Hobley of Wiringa Park said the sale was bittersweet.
“We were rapt with how he presented and the interest he attracted at Bendigo. He’s been a standout since day one. We knew he was going to make an impact.”
He added, “It’s always rewarding to see our best genetics head to studs like White River, who place value on structure, balance, and wool cut without compromising type.”
The ram’s pedigree is stacked with impact sires. He’s ET-bred from Prince Philip (sold for $40,000 in 2021 to the Woodyarrup and Pyramid Poll studs) and Glenlea Park 220614 – both proven producers of commercially relevant, high-indexing sheep.
For the White River team, this acquisition cements their commitment to sourcing the best genetics available to drive the stud’s long-term breeding goals.
“WP240742 delivers the total package, wool quality, structure, and the figures to back it up.”
Semen is now available from WP240742 at $60/dose + GST (minimum 100 doses).
